Welcome to Breakspeare Community Preschool and Nursery. We are based in Abbots Langley and accept children from the age of 2 for their preschool years and up to the age of 4 for their nursery school year (optional).
About Us

Learning through play in a caring environment

We offer morning and afternoon sessions and children can also attend our breakfast, lunch and after preschool clubs. More information on these can be found in Our Sessions.

We have a strong team of staff and welcome children to join us for an unforgettable experience. We offer an all-round experience for our early years children with lots of resources to access and enjoy including messy play with sand, gloop and water, small world toys such as farms, space, trains and dolls houses to name a few. Crafts like painting and collage are always available along with numerous other activities. We are a free flow setting, so our garden is available for much of the session for the children to enjoy should they prefer to be outdoors. We have a music and movement sessions along with story and circle time every day. Our priority is to ensure that children are safe, happy, learning and having fun in a nurturing environment.

Discover a place where your child can feel safe, happy and confident

Helping every child grow, learn and thrive

Preschool aged children can attend a small, focused learning group we call Leaf Group during each session.

Nursery children continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum which includes preparing children for school. They will have the opportunity to access resources and activities planned specifically by our Early Years Leader for our nursery children. These activities include our ‘Busy Box’ and ‘Busy Bag’ activities, scissor work, playing games, practising a tripod grip, language, letters and sounds and maths work. When they are ready, they will follow adult led activities in small groups we call Flower Group and Petal Group. An outline of the planned learning that takes place in this group work will be sent home each week, enabling parents and carers to support their child with this learning at home should they wish to.

Helping Children

Supporting children and families every step of the way

Staff, parents and our committee work very hard to make sure every child with us has the opportunity to achieve the outcome of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, positive contribution and economic well-being.

We want all children to feel safe, stimulated and happy in the setting and to feel secure and comfortable with our staff. We also want parents to have confidence in their children’s well-being. We use a Key Person approach to ensure that each child has a named member of staff with whom they can form a relationship, and who plans for that child’s development within the setting, taking into consideration their likes and interests.
